Britax Child Safety is recalling almost 15,000 Chaperone infant car seats because of a faulty harness adjuster, says the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. A defective rivet could cause the harness adjuster to pull away from the seat, meaning that the car seat won’t properly secure the infant in an accident. No injuries or deaths have been reported.

The recall applies to car seats manufactured from Sept. 1, 2010 – April 30, 2011, with the following model numbers: E9L692L (cow pattern), E9L692M (green), E9L692J (black/silver), and E9L692K (red). The manufacture date and model number can be found on a label on the car seat.

Britax reported that they began notifying registered owners and sending repair kits on February 6, 2012. Britax Chaperone owners can find the harness adjuster at the base of the car seat to check to see if it has already detached. If the harness adjuster has already become detached from the seat, stop using the seat immediately and notify Britax, as the company will replace the entire car seat. Britax can be contacted at 1-888-427-4829 for more info.
